Why Photography?

Since I was a child, I have seen the world a little differently than most. Textures, colors and shapes seem to call out to me, and photography is the way I can share what I see with the world.

Some photographers are known for a particular style of photography. I am a generalist; there are so many interesDng things in the world, I do not want to limit myself to one particular subject type. Some of my favorite images are what I call Oddscapes. Odd is defined as "differing in nature from what is ordinary, usual, or expected". By transporting the viewer to someplace unexpected or showing an ordinary scene in a highly unusual manner, I can reveal the subject without it being colored by the viewer's preconceived notions.

As an old-tmer, I started in the world of film. I had my own darkroom, and enjoyed it, but it was very limiting from a time perspective. An entire weekend had to be set aside to make prints. My first digital camera was a Canon G1 and this was a game-changer for me. I was now able to work in the digital darkroom whenever I wanted, and I saw my productivity increase at least ten-fold. In 2006, I started using the original Canon Digital Rebel and knew I could never go back to film. Currently, I use the Canon EOS 60D.
